Dental Filling

Tooth filling is a filling material used to restore the function, integrity and morphology of the tooth structure that has been damaged due to caries or trauma. Plaques formed on the teeth for various reasons (acid drinks, foods and bacteria form the harmful layer called plaque on the teeth) Plaques adhere to the teeth and cause decay and cavities in the tooth enamel. These decays damage the outer layer of the tooth and the dentin (inner layer). Tooth decay, which is not intervened in a timely manner, can cause pain and greater distress, even the loss of the tooth.

Tooth filling is made with various filling materials and methods according to the size and depth of the decay or damage on the tooth. First, the damaged tissue of the carious area on the tooth is cleaned. Since the tooth is anesthetized at this time, no pain is felt. After the cleaning process is completed, the tooth becomes ready for filling. It is important to clean the tooth very well, because if the filling is made before the decayed tissue is completely cleaned, the tooth will continue to decay from the inside and cause caries to progress and tooth loss. At the end of the cleaning process, the filling material is prepared by the dentist and applied to the area to be restored, and the dental filling is completed.

There are various dental filling materials according to the materials they contain. The most commonly used filling materials are Amalgam and Composites. Apart from these, glass ionomer (Glass Ionomer Cement) and Porcelain / Ceramic fillings, also known as 'Inlay-Onlay', are also preferred. Filling treatments will be preferred and applied by your dentist, taking into account the material selection, the size and depth of the area to be filled, which teeth it is on, the general health status of the patient (chronic disease, metal allergy, etc.).
